November 29, 1947: The Story of a Vote (Video & Amos Oz Excerpt)

This post provides resources about the fateful vote of November 29, 1947, when the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of the Partition Plan, a three-minute long vote which changed the course of Jewish history. The Partition Plan recommended the end of the British Mandate and a partition of the land into two independent states – one Jewish and one Arab – with a special international regime for Jerusalem. This post presents a 10 minute long video about story of the vote from the « Eyewitness 1948 » short film series produced by Toldot Yisrael, as well as an excerpt from Israeli author Amos Oz’s « A Tale of Love and Darkness, » which describes the emotions of this moment as experienced by the author when he was a child in Jerusalem. These resources are provided by The iCenter for Israel Education, a hub for building, shaping, and supporting rich, diverse, passionate Israel education.
