This link presents a beautiful 7 minute long musical Havdalah medley that switches between many well known tunes. The opening paragraph « hine el yeshua’ati » is sung to the traditional melody from the Modzitz Hasidic group known for their musical compositions. « Layehudim » is sung to the tune composed by Reform Rabbi, Noam Katz, a musician, composer, and Jewish educator that inspires Jewish and interfaith communities with his melodies of peace, hope and unity. The four central blessings of the ceremony are sung to the popular melody composed by Jewish American singer-songwriter, Debbie Freidman. « Havmavdil bein kodesh lehol » is sung to a traditional melody from Jerusalem, and « Eliyahu Hanavi » and « Shavua Tov » are sung to traditional melodies popular in many Jewish communities. The complete Hebrew, English and transliterated texts can be viewed below. This recording features many of the Hazzans of the B’nai Jeshurun Synagogue in New York, a non-affiliated Jewish community offering services that are joyful, musical, socially progressive, and accessible, weaving together tradition with contemporary life. Translation
Adonai is my strength, my might, my deliverance.
With joy shall you draw water from the wells of deliverance.
Deliverance is Adonai’s; You will bless Your people.
Adonai tz’va-ot is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Adonai tz’va-ot, blessed the one who trusts in You.
Help us, Adonai; answer us, O Sovereign, when we call. Grant us the blessings of light, of gladness and of honor which the miracle of deliverance brought to our ancestors.
