This post presents two photographs of the Yanchik Hill memorial and lookout point located outside of Kibbutz Nir Am. The first photograph features a sculpture of Yaakov (Yanchik) Gavri (1916-1986), a member of Kibbutz Nir Am who served as a leader of the region in the 1940s. Yanchik was known for riding his horse alongside his faithful dog, as depicted in the sculpture, created by his sons, Eliezer and Yogev, in 2002. Two large pine trees, planted by Yanchik, stand at the top of the hill, which provides an excellent view of the entire southern coast plain and the northern Gaza Strip, as pictured in the second photograph. The hill often serves as an international communications center for IDF operations in the Gaza Strip. Both photographs were taken by Dr. Avishai Teicher and made available through the PikiWiki archives.
